I had a wonderful time at R&F Handmade Paints. Lisa Pressman's course on Advanced Encaustic was an experience in experimentation.
Being a primarily rerepresentational artist I was challenged and stretched by the abstract focus of the course. Long days of painting were broken up by demos, lovely lunches provided by R&F, discussions and crash courses on abstract painting.
I discovered a love of tool use with wax. I really enjoyed using the razor blade to scrape back and smooth the surface of the works. A rolling meat tenderizer was my favorite mark making tool.
The wonderful selection of wax, oil sticks and other supplies left me feeling like an overwhelmed child in a candy store. Too many wonderful choices and not enough time or energy to try them all.
