At the end of January,my daughter Mariah and I attended a free Life Drawing opportunity at Art Commons in Calgary.
The model was a burlesque dancer who posed in two different costumes. She explained the making of the costumes and the formation of the two characters a Greek goddess coming alive off the surface of a vase and a black widow.
Timing for poses lasted from one minute to twenty minutes. Mariah chose to draw seated at a table and I drew at an easel, both seated and standing. I chose to use charcoal sticks for the shorter poses and soft lead pencils for the longer ones.
Both Mariah and I enjoyed the experience and the two hours flew by. It has been a while since I have done life drawing so I appreciated the comments and suggestions of the facilitator as he circled the room interacting with the artists. We also enjoyed speaking with other sketchers and hearing about their art journeys.
There may be another free life drawing opportunity offered in August 2017. Check for info. on the Arts common website. Newcomers have first opportunity to reserve a spot. We hope there will be room for us to attend again.
